From the humblest beginnings to a multimillion dollar organization?Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union has a history built on the caring, hard-working people of the Coosa Valley Region.

In 1954, nine men had a vision of each one helping the other. These nine GE Company employees pooled their resources, depositing $5 each into a cigar box. Their cumulative $45 would help see each one through many a rainy day.

On May 7, 1954, the National Credit Union Administration granted a charter to the General Electric Employees of Rome Federal Credit Union.

Since then many changes have occurred. In 1984, the ?Field of Membership? was expanded to allow other employee groups to enjoy the privileges of membership. In 1985, Inland Employees Federal Credit Union merged with General Electric Federal Credit Union.

To better serve its members, offices were opened in other areas. In 1985, an office was opened in Hickory, North Carolina. In 1995, offices were opened in Cartersville and in East Rome.

A major change occurred in 2001 when the credit union's charter was changed to a Community Charter, allowing a broader membership. This permitted membership to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the 10-county Coosa Valley area, including Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, Polk, and Walker Counties.

In 2002, the new name of Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union was adopted to reflect the area served by the credit union.

Cedartown, Georgia became the home to an office of Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union in 2003.

Along with the growth of membership, the expansion of offices and change in charter, Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union has changed in the scope of services offered. In addition to checking, savings and loan services for individuals, Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union had added electronic home banking, audio response, credit card services, ATM's and a full array of business services. Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union is continuing as a visionary organization, constantly searching for ways to better serve members.
