Information we collect

  1. CVFCU will collect only the personal information that is necessary to conduct our business and to provide competitive financial products and services. We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:
    • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms;
    • Information about your transactions with us or others;
    • Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency

Confidentiality of information

  1. Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union (CVFCU) shall protect the confidentiality, security and integrity of each member’s nonpublic personal information consistent with state and federal laws.
  2. CVFCU shall take careful and reasonable measures to protect the accuracy and privacy of all member information used in conducting business. CVFCU has also established appropriate security standards to protect against unauthorized access to member information. At no time will unauthorized individuals have access to the Credit Union’s database via the Internet. CVFCU uses an integrated security system to protect your account data from exposure to unauthorized persons.
  3. It is the responsibility of all officials and employees to protect confidential member information, identify potential areas of exposure and to take steps to report such discovery and to assist in correcting the condition that could permit any potential security breach.

When Information may be shared

  1. It is our policy to prohibit disclosure of member information to third parties (excluding Credit Union affiliates) concerning accounts with us, except:
    • When such disclosure is necessary to complete transactions.
    • To verify the existence and condition of your account for a third party (such as a credit bureau) as is permitted by law.
    • To comply with any court order or applicable laws or regulations.
    • When given written permission by the member. Federal law protects the information CVFCU provides to credit reporting agencies and the Fair Credit Reporting Act strictly governs its use.
  2. Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union only shares information for legitimate business reasons, with the ultimate goal of bringing you greater convenience and more choices. The credit union shares member information with its affiliates and certain vendors with whom it has a contractual relationship to provide specific products and services such as insurance services, credit cards and account statements. These insurance services, credit cards and account statements are frequently requested services that we would not otherwise be able to provide. These vendors are prohibited from using member information for any purpose other than that for which they have been contracted.

Sharing information with affiliates under joint marketing agreements

Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union does not sell or provide personal information to third parties for independent use. We may, however, share personal information with our credit union affiliates under joint marketing agreements, for example CUNA Mutual Group as allowed by federal law, if that information is required to provide a broader array of products or services. Categories of information that may be shared are:

  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms;
  • Information about your transactions with us or others;
  • Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency.

Administration and Amendments

  1. Protecting member privacy is an ongoing process and CVFCU will continue to review the measures taken to safeguard member information.
  2. If member information is shared with vendors, all contracts and agreements between the vendor and CVFCU will include a guarantee that the vendor will safeguard such information.
  3. Since no policy can address every possible contingency and circumstance, CVFCU management shall use its good faith business judgment in administering this privacy policy.
  4. CVFCU reserves the right to amend this policy in any respect with or without notice.
  5. CVFCU is proud of its commitment to member confidentiality, and will make this policy available upon request. We distribute the policy to each new account and to the membership annually. CVFCU will also post the policy on its Internet home page.
